Spring HS janitor arrested in connection to fatal hit-and-run from last year

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- A diligent and determined mother watched Thursday as deputies arrested the Spring ISD custodian they believe is responsible for the hit-and-run death of her son.

Jack Lonnie Massey, 54, was arrested around noon at Spring High School, where he worked. He is charged with failure to stop and render aid after an accident involving death.

Last December, Greg Davies, 22, was hit and killed as he walked along Aldine Westfield in Northwest Harris County. Sheriff's investigators only knew the car that hit him was a late-90s Audi and it had damage to the undercarriage.

In the months after, Davies' mother, Regina Davies, scoured the area around where her son was killed. She was on the lookout for a car that matched the description.

"I drove 15-18 hours a day. Down every street, in every neighborhood, every parking lot, everything," Davies told Eyewitness News.

Her hard work paid off. In April, she found a possible match -- a 2001 Audi with front-end damage. For a week she followed it, documenting its comings and goings with pictures and learned Massey drove past the crash site on his way to work every morning around the time Greg was hit. In May, investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office took it away for evidence purposes.

Thursday, Massey was arrested as Davies sat across the street from Spring High School and watched.

"It was a rewarding moment," Davies said through tears. "Justice is finally going to be done for Gregory. I didn't give up. He's my boy."

HCSO Lt. Noel Araguz told Eyewitness News with the teamwork, "together we prevailed."

Massey's bond is set at $30,000. He's expected in court Friday morning.
