CORAL SPRINGS, FL (KTRK) --Newly-released cell phone video shows a deaf man, Paul Peterman, approaching a firefighter's vehicle before Peterman was found unconscious near his pickup truck.
Peterman later died at the hospital.
Officials say the Thursday morning rush-hour altercation was with a local firefighter, Joshua Tullis, station WPLG reports.
Video recorded by one of the drivers involved in that deadly road rage incident in Coral Springs.
This clip shows the final moments that led up to the death of the 37-year-old Peterman.
This footage was recorded by Tullis, who claims he was the victim of road rage while he was driving home from work Thursday morning.
Eric Schwartzreich, Tullis' attorney, told WPLG, "He sees a driver in a vehicle in a truck and this driver driving in a menacing fashion. He's doing brake checks and he's cutting off other drivers. He's cutting my client off. My client doesn't know what's going on with this driver, but he becomes concerned for the safety of others and for himself."
Schwartzreich says his client has already shown him additional footage that backs up those claims, but right now they're not releasing it because of the ongoing police investigation.
As for Peterman's family, they're heartbroken and shocked by the death of their loved one.
His mother, Bernie Peterman, said, "It's really hard. It's a senseless death that we don't understand. The loss of your son is just heart wrenching. There's no words that people can say, but we know that he's with God and in heaven."
Peterman was found unconscious on the side of the road. He later died at the hospital.
Peterman's family and friends are wondering why the firefighter didn't stop to help.
Schwartzreich said, "He didn't know what happened. He wanted to leave the zone of danger, so he left. He didn't know what happened to him, but he thought the danger was over, and he was heading home where his wife and his young children are."
The investigation into what happened continues, and no charges have been filed at this time. Tullis has been placed on administrative duties due to the probe.
