HOUSTON -- All schools in the Spring Branch ISD were briefly under a modified lockdown Friday afternoon, according to school district officials.
A school district spokesperson says the lockdown was in place from 1:20 to 2:00pm, meaning students, teachers and staff could move about within the schools, but no one is allowed in or out of the buildings. Classes continued as normal
The lockdown was put in place out of an abundance of caution, based on a non-specific threat as advised by federal authorities. No further information about the threat is available.
The Memorial Villages Police Department posted information about an email making a non-specific threat to an unknown school. MVPD says there are no threats against any specific schools but they are on heightened alert and closely monitoring all school properties.
Houston ISD issued the following statement: "HISD Police were notified early Friday morning about a potential threat made against an unidentified Houston-area school. HISD Police and the Houston Police Department launched an investigation, but at this time have found no evidence to suggest the threat was credible or directed at HISD. As a precautionary measure, all HISD police officers were notified of the potential threat and instructed to remain vigilant throughout the day. We take situations such as these very seriously, as student safety is always HISD's top priority."
