Grand jury transcripts reveal allegations of abuse and infidelity in the case of a California mayor whose wife shot him to death.

Daniel Crespo, 46, the mayor of Bell Gardens near Los Angeles, was shot and killed on Sept. 30.

His wife, Lynette Crespo, 43, is charged with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting and has pleaded not guilty, telling authorities she acted in self-defense. Crespo had punched their son in the face when he intervened in the couple's argument, she said.

Daniel Crespo Jr., 19, called 911 to report the shooting, telling a dispatcher: "He's on the floor dying. He hurt me."

Lynette Crespo's lawyer argues the killing was justifiable because of years of physical abuse from the mayor.

"I think the evidence will corroborate that she had been a victim of domestic violence for many years," attorney Eber Bayona said.

Prosecutors admit Daniel Crespo was repeatedly unfaithful, even buying one mistress a ring for a faux wedding in Las Vegas. Additionally, Crespo rented out a six-bedroom home he owned, but kept one room just for his affairs, according to grand jury transcripts.

Prosecutors claim Lynette Crespo knew about the affairs, threatening her husband in a heated text message exchange over flowers he bought, according to grand jury transcripts.

"I'll find out who...u got flowers for," Lynette Crespo texts.

"It better [be the] last time U threaten to shoot me in [the] head," he replies.

"People don't like to be ... made a fool," Lynette Crespo responds.

Officials say the two exchanged similar texts on the day of the murder.

"The texts messages show that the defendant was angry with her husband on the day that she killed him," legal analyst Mark Eiglarsh told ABC News.

If convicted, Lynette Crespo could face up to 21 years in state prison.

Some members of the mayor's family are speaking out in his defense, saying there's no evidence he abused his wife. A Facebook page has also been set up seeking justice for the mayor.
