Deputy and investigator fight
Fight in the street lands two officers in the hospital, Marla Carter reports.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Harris County Precinct One Constable's Office is investigating after an off-duty deputy and an investigator with the district attorney's office got into a fight Tuesday evening.

It all happened right in front of the parking garage at the corner of Austin and Franklin.

The fight happened as a Harris County Sheriff's deputy was directing traffic during rush hour Tuesday evening.

An investigator with the Harris County District Attorney's Office questioned if the man was really a deputy, and attempted to arrest him.

The deputy said he was and went to his car so he could show the investigator his ID. Officials say the investigator thought the deputy was trying to escape and he put handcuffs on him.

After that, there was a fight.

Both were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

ABC13 has learned the investigator used to be a captain with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. We reached out to the investigator and he declined to comment. We are not naming him, since he hasn't been charged with a crime.

Harris County Pct. 1 is investigating.

"I've placed that individual on paid administrative leave. In working with Constable Rosen, we'll get to the bottom of it. Every case is a search for the truth. We'll find out what happened," said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office sent a statement about the incident:

"The Harris County Sheriff's Office is aware of a physical altercation that occurred in the downtown area on March 27, 2018 between a deputy working an off-duty job and an investigator with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. The deputy's involvement in the incident is being reviewed administratively by the sheriff's Internal Affairs Division."
