Slain Pasadena woman's ex-boyfriend in custody after standoff
A man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend is in the hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to investigators.

PASADENA, Texas (KTRK) -- A man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend is in custody after shooting himself during a standoff with authorities.

The initial shooting took place at a home in the 400 block of Yorkshire just before 1 p.m. Pasadena police say the man and his ex-girlfriend got into some type of fight. The woman was shot and killed, and the man fled the scene.

Family members have identified the slain woman as 43-year-old Laura Perales.

Detectives later located the suspect, who has not been publicly identified, at a house not far from the initial shooting.

SWAT officers heard a gunshot as they attempted to enter the home where the man was holed up. They found the suspect still alive with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect was taken by Life Flight to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. He has yet to be charged.
