Coach recovering remarkably after heart attack
Doctors say if he hadn't been visiting Houston, he may have not survived.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- In medicine like real estate, sometimes location is everything.

Rick Owens was visiting Houston from Yoakum, Texas for a football coaching convention at the George R. Brown center this summer when he noticed a problem. He had tightness in his chest and numbness in his arms.

The heart attack would take his life, but only for a few seconds.

"Basically he was dead from the time he was in the emergency room to when he came up in the Cath Lab table. He was receiving CPR and chest compressions," said Dr. Konstantinos Charitakis.

Doctors and nurses at Memorial Hermann brought him back on the hospital elevator. They installed stents to open his artery which was clogged about 99 percent.

Charitakis says it was a godsend that Owens was just up the road at the GRB near one of the most advanced hospitals in the country and world.

"I may not have made it if I have been in some you know rural areas," said Owens.

His recovery has been remarkable and he'll soon be back on the sidelines in Yoakum.
