Astros games, festivals and road closures bring weekend traffic delays

Getting around downtown Houston will be extra tricky
If you are heading to the Astros games, be sure to make a traffic plan to help save time!

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- If you are heading to the Astros games or anywhere downtown this weekend, be sure to make a traffic plan to help save time.

I-45 Northbound

I-10 to Quitman will be shut down from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. I-10 westbound ramp to I-45 northbound will also be blocked.

Alternate route: US-59 northbound to the 610 North Loop.

US-59 northbound at FM-762.

In Rosenberg, FM-762 northbound and southbound will be shut down at US-59. Alternate route: US-90 or Reading Road.

US-59

Three southbound lanes closed from Fondren to Gessner starting 9 p.m Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday.

I-45 Gulf Freeway to 610 South Loop

The I-45 Gulf Freeway northbound connector ramp to 610 South Loop westbound will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday. Alternate route: Bellfort.

Expect major traffic delays in Downtown this weekend.

If you are headed into downtown Houston on Friday, watch for double delays on your evening drive.

The Astros take on the Yankees during the American League Championship Series Game 1. The first pitch is at 7:08 p.m. at Minute Maid Park.

Also on Friday evening, the Houston Rockets take on the San Antonio Spurs at the Toyota Center. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ALCS Game 2 is at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

If you are looking for downtown parking, pick your spot in advance. You can check Downtown Houston's interactive parking map that shows rates, hours and availability for garages and parking lots.

Just a reminder, downtown street parking is not free until after 6 p.m. HPD is warning drivers to be careful who they pay for parking in order to avoid a scam. Parking attendants for surface lots should be wearing a vest and a company ID/name tag.

Using METRO

If you don't mind walking a couple of blocks, consider using METRO Rail's red, purple or green lines to central stations or METRO Greenlink.

Metro is recommending these Park and Ride Options for Light Rail riders:

- Fannin South Park and Ride

- Lindale Park Station at 218 Joyce

- Moody Park Station at 3725 Fulton

OTHER EVENTS THIS WEEKEND

Also, Festa Italiana takes place at University of St. Thomas Oct. 12-15. Paid parking is available at the Moran Center Garage at West Alabama and Graustark. Metro's 25 Richmond, 56 Airline at Montrose Crosstown will also take you to the events.

The Bayou City Art Festival is on Oct.14-15. Parking is available at the 1100 Smith Garage. There is plenty of parking near the festival: street level, privately owned surface lots, and parking garages.

Biking or taking an Uber, taxi, or METRO is also encouraged.
