CHICAGO, Illinois (KTRK) -- Officials in Chicago have repealed a controversial soda tax.

It's a move that could put similar measures across the country in jeopardy.

The Cook County board voted Wednesday night to repeal the penny-per-ounce tax. The vote was 15 to 2.

The vote came after backlash from store owners, drink companies and bottlers who argued the tax did not accomplish its stated goal of fighting obesity.

Experts will watch to see if the repeal vote in Chicago leads to similar action against soda taxes in cities like Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
