Austin mom shot in the back during Las Vegas massacre
AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) -- An Austin mom who collected supplies for Hurricane Harvey victims is now recovering after she was shot in the Las Vegas mass shooting.
Friends say Michaela Clark was shot in the back while running away from gunfire Sunday night on the Las Vegas Strip.
When she fell to the ground, a stranger carried her and put her underneath a car to shield her.
As soon as her friends heard she was hurt, they immediately began rallying to help the mother of two young girls with her recovery.
"I was just so overwhelmed to see her name come up on my phone and so thankful, you know, and that she was on the other line and that she was alive," a friend said. "Super grateful that her life was spared but we do know that there is a long road ahead of her."
Her friends don't know yet when she'll be strong enough to leave the hospital or head home to Austin.
A GoFundMe page was launched to help pay for Clark's recovery.
