High-speed chase ends in SE Houston with suspects crawling out of a stolen BMW
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police were busy with two chases overnight. The first one happened on Gulf Freeway around 1:30 this morning.
Police say suspects stole a BMW from one of their relatives.
Officers spotted the BMW 30 minutes later at I-45 and the South Loop.
Police said the driver refused to stop and led officers on a 25 minute high-speed chase. The suspect ended up hitting a curb and blowing a tire on the feeder road.
The suspect pulled in to an Exxon at I-45 and Astoria, and both the driver and passenger were taken into custody after climbing out of the window of the stolen BMW.
The clerk at the gas station says she was terrified, and hid in the bathroom after an officer ordered her to get down.
Police said the driver will be charged with felony evading and he may possibly have a felony warrant for robbery.
"We'll also check to see if that vehicle was used in the robbery after it's been stolen. A lot of times people will steal cars, then commit robberies and that type of stuff," HPD Lieutenant Larry Crowson said.
Officers are not sure if the passenger will face any charges.
A previous chase happened around 11:30 p.m. when an officer spotted a damaged car in the middle of a gas station parking lot near Main and Airline.
Police say the driver told the officer he had been drinking.
The suspect was arrested after police spiked his tires, forcing him to stop.
