LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas -- Deputies say an 8-year-old boy has died after being shot in the chest while family members were shooting tin cans at their home in Liberty County.
Investigators said the boy's father, 35-year-old Aaron Rincon, was using an old .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle with no trigger guard late Saturday night at their home on CR 3560.
Rincon and a juvenile nephew were firing at tin cans near a wood pile at the home.
At one point, Rincon told deputies another family member was handling the gun when a shot rang out.
His son had been shot and was rushed to the hospital in his father's truck.
Life Flight took the boy to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, who died before he could arrive.
The father is not facing any charges at this time as deputies investigate the shooting.
