Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans skip national anthem in response to Trump comments
The Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in staying inside the locker room during the national anthem on Sunday.
In a statement released just before kickoff against the Titans, the Seahawks said the decision was made as a team to skip the anthem.
"We will not stand for the injustice that has plagued people of color in this country," part of the Seahawks' statement read.
The Titans also released a statement on their decision to remain inside the locker room.
"As a team, we wanted to be unified in our actions today. The players jointly decided this was the best course of action. Our commitment to the military and our community is resolute and the absence of our team for the national anthem shouldn't be misconstrued as unpatriotic," team officials said.
The protests across the NFL come after President Trump criticized NFL players who protest during the national anthem.
Speaking at a political rally in Alabama, Trump said, "Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a (explicit) off the field right now. Out. He's fired! He's fired!"
