CVS takes steps to combat opioid crisis
CVS is taking steps to address the nation's opioid crisis.

WOONSOCKET, Rhode Island (KTRK) -- CVS is rolling out a series of changes aimed at addressing the nation's opioid crisis.

The retailer announced that it will impose a seven-day limit on the supply of opioids dispensed for certain prescriptions and will also limit the daily dosage of certain opioids.

When a patient receives an opioid prescription, pharmacists will first discuss the risks of dependence and answer any questions the patient may have.

For those who have unused opioid prescriptions, the pharmacy will take back unwanted prescriptions at 750 of its pharmacies.

The CVS Health Foundation has also made a $2 million commitment to support causes that mitigate prescription drug abuse and community health centers that address addiction recovery and prevention.
