Galveston hosting weekend of events to benefit Harvey relief
Galveston Cares weekend will be held Sept. 30 - Oct. 1.

GALVESTON (KTRK) -- Galveston is offering a weekend of events and attractions after being spared the worst from Hurricane Harvey. Many of the events will benefit Harvey relief efforts for Galveston's neighbors throughout southeast Texas.

Galveston Cares weekend will be held Sept. 30 - Oct. 1 and include free parking at beach parks, including beaches that normally charge admission.

There will also be free parking along the entire Seawall and free trolley rides around the island.

You could win $2,000 at the free Galveston Family Challenge obstacle course at noon. You can register here.

A free fireworks show will be held at 37th Street and Seawall, in honor of first responders.

The Grand 1894 Opera will host an open mic afternoon from noon to 4 p.m.

Tickets to the 1895 Moody Mansion and the Bryan Museum will be buy one, get one free.

The Galveston Island Shrimp Festival will donate $2 from every ticket sold to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. At the festival, you can sample gumbo from more than 80 cooking teams.
