HOUSTON, Texans (KTRK) -- Rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson played his first NFL game as a starter against the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday.

Watson scored the only touchdown of the game with a 49-yard run into the end zone.

The Texans defeated the Bengals 13-9.

Watson relieved Tom Savage in the second half of Sunday's 29-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after Savage and the offense struggled to move the ball. Savage was 7-of-13 for 62 yards and Watson went 12-of-23 for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

On his first drive to start the second half, Watson threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins.

Everything you need to know about the Texans' new quarterback.

Watson was selected 12th overall in the NFL Draft after the Texans traded up 13 picks to take him. With the current state of the offensive line, Watson's quick feet and elusiveness make him the top choice at quarterback.

Savage has been the starter throughout training camp and preseason after the Texans traded Brock Osweiler last March.
