Roads around Addicks and Barker reservoirs have projected reopen dates
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Officials have begun projecting reopening dates for streets in the west end of Harris County that were covered in water from the overflowing Addicks and Barker reservoirs.
The Army Corps of Engineers performed controlled water releases of the reservoirs in the midst of last month's Harvey flood event in the Houston area.
Neighborhoods around the reservoirs were flooded, and residents argued the damage their homes sustained was directly from the Army Corps' releases since they did not experience the large amounts of water until Aug. 28, which was when the worst of Harvey's rain passed.
A class action lawsuit has since been filed against the U.S. government.
In the meantime, Harris County's Transportation and Planning Division Key announced projected reopenings of roadways around the Addicks and Barker reservoirs:
Addicks Reservoir
- Sept. 15: Clay Road, including North Eldridge Parkway north of Clay Road
- Sept. 20: North Eldridge Parkway between Clay Road and Dairy Ashford Road
- Sept. 20: Highway 6 between Clay Road and Park Row
- Sept. 20: Groeschke Road at Highway 6
- Oct. 7: Patterson Road between Highway 6 and Eldridge Parkway
Barker Reservoir
- Sept. 15: Westheimer Parkway
- Sept. 22: South Barker Cypress Road
To accommodate drivers who would normally use these roads, traffic workers adjusted intersection signals to the west of the reservoirs, including making green and red light cycles longer.
They also said barriers have been placed near roadways where waters have receded. The barriers signify possible road damage or remaining high water on other parts of the road.
The county recommended motorists to anticipate delays and plan accordingly.
