Kindergartner starts school with spirit after Harvey
He went to school with a shirt that read, "I survived Harvey, but can Mrs. Ballard survive me?"

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) -- It was back to school for some students, just two weeks since Hurricane Harvey tore through our city, displacing thousands of students and staff members.

One of those students was Gabriel Valadez. Gabriel started Kindergarten Monday with spirit despite the storm.

He went to school with a shirt that read, "I survived Harvey, but can Mrs. Ballard survive me?"

Good luck to Gabriel and Mrs. Ballard, it looks like she'll have her hands full.

Two more back to school dates have been scheduled for HISD. More campuses will open Sept. 18 and Sept. 25, but nine HISD schools will not open at all this school year.

Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, Katy ISD, Spring ISD, Clear Creek ISD, and Pasadena ISD all began Monday.
