Police said they were chasing two female suspects who threw bags of what they say could be drugs out of the SUV.

BELLAIRE, Texas (KTRK) -- A shooting involving Houston police officers and two female suspects is under investigation after police said the two women used a vehicle to hit an officer's car at the end of a chase.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo briefed the media around 1:30 a.m. and said that his officers attempted to pull over a vehicle after the driver made an illegal turn at the 10200 block of West Bellfort around 11:30 Monday night.

Officers were in pursuit after the driver failed to stop and continued to drive southbound at Highway 59.

Acevedo said during the chase, officers saw the suspects throw bags they believe contained marijuana out of the SUV.

The vehicle hit a tree and a fire hydrant on 4500 Sunburst and Acevedo said the suspects then tried to back into the police unit at least twice.

The officers opened fire, hitting the driver and passenger with at least two bullets hitting a home, injuring an innocent female bystander, police said.

All three were taken to Ben Taub Hospital with minor gun shot wounds.

No officers were hurt. They have been placed on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation.

Meanwhile, the two suspects are facing charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
