Harvey can't put a damper on this Pearland wedding
Hurricane Harvey can't put a damper on this couple's wedding.

PEARLAND, Texas (KTRK) -- Draped in traditional Indian attire, Anitha and Sanjay shared their first bite as husband wife in a sparsely filled reception hall earlier this week.

The room had just a fraction of the family and friends who were supposed to be there to share the moment with them, but the wedding almost didn't happen at all.

Amid the wrath of Hurricane Harvey, the groom nearly missed his own wedding.

"I had four different flights canceled trying to get here," Sanjay Chandrasekaran said.

The owners of the rented home where his parents were staying in Pearland called in a favor from family.

"I said, 'We need to get a groom to his bride. Can you come help us do that?'" Tiffany Travis, who rented the home out, explained.

Even Harvey couldn't ruin the couple's destined day.

"It turned out to be the best wedding I could have dreamed of," Anitha said. "There was so much devastation in Houston, but in the end, we were able to get married."
