What to do with your pets ahead of a major storm

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Your pets are part of your family, and you don't want to leave them behind or without good care ahead of a major storm.

Make sure you have a pet care plan. Here are a few things you should have:

• Update pet ID information

• Spare collar and leash

• Copy of medical records

• Extra medication

• Food, water and pet treats

• First aid kit

• Cleaning supplies

• Blankets, beds and toys

PETA is pleading not to leave any animals behind during the storm. They suggest to keep animals indoors if you do not evacuate.

They said that some emergency shelters turn animals away, so find out if any hotels or motels are willing to take them in an emergency.
