SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KTRK) -- A Houston firefighter honored the memory of one of his fellow fallen firefighters with a surprise presentation to the San Antonio Fire Department on Saturday.

Station 6 firefighter Tyler Hooper made the custom table for fallen San Antonio firefighter Scott Deem, who was killed in May looking for anyone who may have been trapped by flames at a massive shopping center fire.

Hooper said while he didn't work with Deem personally, the firefighter family always comes together for one of their own.

"It hits all of us pretty hard, especially when its local in Texas," Hooper said. "We all try to step up and do what we can for the family and the members of that department that lost somebody."

Hooper said it took him about a week to make the table. Other HFD stations contributed $1,200 to cover the cost of the project.
