History of music players (KTRK)

There's no question music has changed throughout the years, but so has the format we use to record and listen to it.

From the invention of the phonograph in 1877 - thanks, Thomas Edison! - to the gramophone that gave the Grammy Awards their name, the way we listen to music has changed so dramatically.

Vinyl LPs came along in 1948 and remain a favorite of many today. 8-track tapes were invented in 1963. They do not enjoy the same level of appreciation today, outside of sheer nostalgia.

The first-generation iPod in 2001 was a game changer, and brought about the era of ubiquitous headphones we love today.
