Celebrities show up for USS Gabrielle Giffords commissioning
Celebrities and political heavyweights showed up for a pre-commission party to honor Gabrielle Giffords.

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Katie Couric, Tillman Fertita, Nancy Pelosi and other political and business heavyweights celebrated the commissioning of the USS Gabrielle Giffords during a star-studded yacht party on Friday evening.

"There was only one place to commission this ship and that was in Galveston, Texas, because we sure couldn't do it in Arizona where Gabby was a congresswoman," said Fertita, the host of Saturday's ceremony.

The USS Gabrielle GIffords is the 16th Navy warship named for a woman.

"For me it's a huge honor to have a family member have a US Navy ship named after her. Especially a living woman. In our history that's very rare," added retired NASA astronaut Scott Kelly.
