DAYTON, TX (KTRK) -- A 2-year-old boy is hospitalized Sunday night after nearly drowning in his family's pool.

The boy's condition is unknown as of this writing.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office says the boy's parents, Emma Drake, and step-father, Dylan Hill, were attending a barbecue in Dayton on County Road 605 when a family member discovered the child had found his way into an 3-feet-deep swimming pool.

The family says after swimming in the above-ground pool earlier in the day, the pool's ladder was removed and somehow the child managed to get back in without it and without others seeing him get in. However, one family member, police say, did spot the child underwater and managed to pull him out.

The boy's parents tried to drive their child to Liberty/Dayton hospital, but on the way were intercepted by emergency medics who performed CPR until LifeFlight could transport the child to Houston's Memorial Hermann hospital.
