2 killed, 1 wounded in College Station drug deal gone wrong

COLLEGE STATION, TX (KTRK) -- Two men are dead and a third wounded after gunfire erupted during a drug deal gone wrong at a College Station apartment, police say.

Authorities were called to a residence on the 1100 block of Luther Street just after 2am, where they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

College Station Police say 20-year-old Brysen Rhodes approached an apartment to buy narcotics, and 20-year-old Jack Lopez of Rosenberg was on the other side of the door. The two exchanged gunfire, according to investigators, and died at the scene.

Lopez's roommate was also injured in the shootout; his condition and identity have not yet been released.

"Stay away from narcotics. We have these come up from time to time, where people get in contact with drug dealers to rob them. They're always bad and people get injured," warned College Station Police Department Lt. Chris Perkins.

Sunday's incident isn't the first drug-related death in College Station this month. A 19-year-old from Frisco died from an apparent drug overdose at a Texas A&M Fraternity house last weekend.

"You just find the right crowd of people to hang with and try to stay away from the other things," advised TAMU senior Kyle Schultze.

Police note College Station is a growing city of its own outside of a campus and, for students who attend A&M, they say it reminds them to think of safety no matter where they are.

"Notice my surroundings more, stay away from sketchy areas and try to stay away from those types of situations," said TAMU student Cameron Shih.
