Waller HS student arrested after bringing gun on campus
A Waller High School student has been arrested after bringing a gun to school.

WALLER, Texas (KTRK) -- A Waller High School student was arrested for allegedly bringing a gun to school, according to district officials.

A Waller ISD spokesperson told Eyewitness News the handgun was seized after one student at the school's alternative learning classroom told a teacher that another teen had the gun. The district did not say if the gun was loaded.

"I wouldn't expect something like that to happen in this local school like this," said parent Sharon Smith.

Waller ISD Superintendent Danny Twardowski wrote a letter to parents calling this an "unfortunate incident."

"The student was immediately removed from campus, and appropriate legal and disciplinary action will be taken," Twardowski added. "I want to commend the student who informed staff of the weapon that was present, as well as the professional action of the staff member, campus administration, and law enforcement officials who worked quickly to ensure the safety of our campus."

Parents wonder what more could be done to keep guns off of campus.

"I don't know if it's a matter of parental control, more security -- I have no idea," said parent George Dingle.

That student was arrested. Because of his or her age, officials will not release the student's name.
