Hot hair gadgets put to the test
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Hot buns, Voloom and the Beach Waver. They're all products you've spotted on your Instagram feed that look easy to work with.
They promise incredible salon-worthy styles at home, but you don't want to buy them until you see Eyewitness News Consumer Reporter Patricia Lopez put them to the test.
She tried the Conair Bun Maker, Hot Buns, Voloom, Teeze with Eez, Tyme Iron and the Beach Waver.
Not all of these products are worth the cost. Some do just what they say and others are even tough for professional stylists to use.

The Conair Bun Maker costs about $5 while the "as seen on TV" Hot Buns retails for $9.99 for a pack of two. The Conair Bun Maker was more time consuming to use because of the need for bobby pins. The Hot Buns product was definitely less work.
The Voloom really works to make users' hair full of volume. It works by using the hot tool to crimp underneath the layer of hair to instantly provide lift. At $130, the cost is a bit pricey. The teasing comb Teeze with Eez is just $13 on Amazon and works well.
Finally, the Tyme Iron makes the big promise to replace five individual tools with one. For $150 dollars, even salon professionals found it difficult to use. On the flip side, the Beach Waver works wonders to get wavy hair. It's still pricey at $200, but it is incredibly easy to use.
