Casino cruise gets backlash over online poll weighing future of captain's job

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A casino cruise asked its Facebook fans whether the captain who crashed the boat should keep his job. The response was so intense the company deleted the poll.

The Jacks or Better Casino ship was damaged when it hit a jetty in Galveston Bay two weeks ago.

Within 30 minutes of posting the poll, the company says people started threatening employees. Someone even threw dog feces on the general manager's front door.

In a new Facebook post, Jacks or Better says the poll was never really about firing the captain. It was about affirming support for him.

The company said, "We did not anticipate the misunderstanding that the thread would cause. For that, J-O-B offers its sincere apology; not for content, but for verbiage."
