ABC13 Viva Houston April 16, 2017- Segment 2

Segment 2 - An update on the recovery of Houston Police Officer Ronny Cortez, who was wounded in a shootout with gang members in February in Southwest Houston. Fellow officer Jose Munoz was also wounded in the gun battle. One of the gunmen in the shooting had an extensive criminal history - with convictions on at least 10 felony offenses. Cortez was paralyzed in the shooting, but is determined to walk again. He and his wife are now hoping to get laws and policies changed to ensure more time behind bars for repeat violent offenders.
