Former UH and NFL player in trouble again after 4 arrests in a year

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- On the field his mission was to let nothing stop him from scoring a touchdown.

Off the field, he's now accused of refusing to let his girlfriend call 911. Twice.

Joffrey Reynolds, 37, is charged with interfering with a 911 call following an incident Tuesday night at the home he shared with his girlfriend.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the woman had asked their 10-year-old son to make the call as the two adults argued and that Reynolds allegedly stopped the boy from making the call.

"We've arrested him at least four times in recency, twice this year for the same violation," said MCSO Captain Bryan Carlisle.

Investigators said the woman left the home and called 911 from a gas station about a mile away.

During his time at University of Houston from 1999 to 2001, Reynolds established himself as a dual-threat: a successful running back and receiver who was recognized not just in Conference USA, but nationally.

After a single season in 2003 with the St. Louis Rams, Reynolds played eight years for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. He still holds the all-time record for most yards for the franchise.

Reynolds appears to have been out of custody on bond at the time of this most recent accusation, the prior charge for allegedly doing the same thing, interfering with a 911 call last January.

But his troubles date back further.

Court documents show his girlfriend accused him in 2015 of putting her in a headlock so tight that she "couldn't breathe." He took a plea bargain to a lesser charge and ended up serving 30 days in jail.

Reynolds reportedly was convicted in Canada for assaulting a different girlfriend. Investigators hope he will seek help before someone is seriously hurt.

The woman at the center of the current case has refused requests for comment.

Reynolds' attorney would not comment on the most recent accusation of interfering with a 911 call, saying she had not yet seen the complaint.
