A 24-year-old man is behind bars and accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in December 2015.

According to prosecutors, Mason Ivory-Pruitt also forced the girl to have sex with three other individuals.

Prosecutor JoAnn Musick explained why it took so long to make an arrest.

"They always talk in street names and she didn't know his true identity until earlier this year," said Musick.

She said the teen ran away from home and almost immediately met Ivory-Pruitt.

"She details that she was sexually assaulted by him and then forced to have sex with three other individuals," said Musick.

According to court documents, Ivory-Pruitt drugged and kept the teen at a vacant apartment at the Broadway Square.

That's when a car ride changed everything, according to the teen's mother. She told Eyewitness News that her daughter called her, saying the attacker was promising to bring her home. Her mother didn't believe it and told her daughter to jump from the moving car.

"It saved her life. She probably still would've been out there," said her mother.

Ivory-Pruitt is no stranger to law enforcement, with arrests dating back to 2011 from burglary to trespassing.

Word of his arrest brought incredible relief to the alleged victim's family.

"I'm so glad," said her mother. "My daughter is going to be so relieved. When I told my daughter they were gonna prosecute, she broke down and cried."

Charges were filed in February, and now he is in custody. Ivory-Pruitt was assigned a public defender who declined to comment because he has yet to fully review the case.
