MANVEL, Texas (KTRK) -- A long-forgotten mansion in Manvel could get a new purpose.

Veteran Christa Mode wants to transform the space into a veterans facility called The Bailey House.

Mode, who moved from Oregon, is still in the process of creating a non-profit.

"I want to make this a place of hope for veterans," she said. "I see hope a lot of it."

Last year, Mode reached out to the mansion's property owner Jim Youngblood. He believes in Mode's vision so much that he is offering the building to her rent-free.

"She seems like she is very genuine. She actually wants to help people," said Youngblood. "She wants to do the right thing, so my partner and I decided that we're going to do everything we can to help her succeed."

There is a community meet-and-greet planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Manvel Mansion. The property is located at 2354 County Road 59.
