HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We're following breaking news in southwest Houston, where a pedestrian has died after they were struck by a vehicle.

Police are at the scene in the 6700 block of Beechnut Street near Bissonnet.

Yesli Guevara, 23, was walking with her 6-year-old daughter. The mother was struck and killed, but her daughter is OK.

Police say the young mother and her daughter were crossing the street, going from one apartment complex to another when a pick up truck turning onto Bissonnet hit the pair.

"A vehicle coming north bound and then turning West onto Bissonnet out of an apartment complex went about fifty feet or so a woman and young child darted out in front of her car and she struck them both, they were both transported to the hospital, the woman died at the hospital," said Sgt. Hall of the Houston Police Department.

The driver was questioned at the scene and released, according to police.
