HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --The man accused of murder-for-hire owed money to creditors, as well as the ex-girlfriend he allegedly tried to have killed.
According to a 51-page document, Leon Jacob filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2016.
Jacob owed about $200,000 to 17 creditors, including a casino and his ex-wife.
Jacob and the late veterinarian Valerie McDaniel were both facing charges for allegedly hiring a hit man to kill their exes.

Monday, McDaniel was found dead after apparently jumping from her high-rise condo.

Jacob is said to have loved McDaniel. His attorney asked the judge if he could be released from jail to attend McDaniel's funeral, but the judge refused.
