HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq is getting more support.

The U.S. military confirmed it will be sending two additional companies to assist with efforts to liberate Mosul.

The soldiers are from the 2nd brigade, 82nd Airborne Division based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. An additional 200 to 300 soldiers will be heading to Iraq as part of the deployment.

A spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve said the number of soldiers being sent is relatively small and described their mission as "temporary".

This unit currently has 1,700 soldiers serving in Iraq and Kuwait. Their main goal is providing advice and support to Iraqi partners in their efforts to liberate Mosul.
