It's a big question parents face: do you let the baby cry or soothe them every time there are tears.

New research is breaking some old stereotypes by suggesting babies should be picked up every single time they cry.

The team at the University of Notre Dame's Department of Psychology says it doesn't spoil them, but rather fosters a sense of calm, easing their stress levels, and allowing them to grow better.

They say those who are cuddled as children grow into more well-adjusted adults with less anxiety and better mental health.
