RACINE, Tennessee (KTRK) -- A woman's Facebook post about a nail salon has caused a lot of controversy.

Deshania Ferguson said she went to get her nails done on March 11 at a nail salon in Memphis. She was shocked to see a sign she claims was from the business about charging more for customers who are overweight.

The sign read:

"Sorry, but if you are overweight, pedicures will be $45 due to service fees for pedicurists. Thank you!"

The post has since been shared nearly 700 times, causing an uproar online.

"Am totally appalled at this. I am not overweight, but the thought of charging someone who is, extra money infuriates me," Marlene R. wrote.

"What a stupid business decision that you made," Lisa A. wrote.

A local TV station went to the nail salon to talk to the owner, Son Nguyen. He told a WREG reporter that the sign was never up on his business, but he did consider putting one up.

"No. I told you, I said I'm thinking but I don't put it up," Nguyen said.

Nguyen said the only extra charge for customers is for men since they do not visit the salon often.

Nguyen told WREG that though he has not displayed a sign for overweight customers, he has decided not to service them. He said it's difficult for his technicians to give them pedicures because he's had customers who have broken chairs.
