Carjacking suspect crashes SUV while leading police chase

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We're following breaking news after a carjacking suspect led police on a chase through Houston's north side.

Police said they tried pulling over a stolen SUV at W. Mount Houston near the North Freeway. That is when the driver took off.

Eventually, the suspect jumped out of the SUV at Kuykendahl and Ella. The vehicle crashed, rolled over a fire hydrant, and broke it.

The driver has not been seen since, according to police.

It turns out the SUV was stolen during a carjacking at a car wash in the Cypress Station area earlier this month.
