How to rock the monochromatic look
Want to dress like the first family? Here's how to pull of a sleek monochromatic look.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- First Lady Melania Trump and First Daughter Ivanka Trump both donned monochromatic looks Inauguration Week. Monochromatic fashion was all the rage a few years ago, but it can be tough to pull off without some guidance. Could it become a trend again?

Laura Bull at Adelaide's Boutique shared tips for pulling together a sleek, all-one-color look:

  • Have at least three of the same color family in the look -- a light, medium, and dark gray, for example.
  • Mix textures with your three pieces. A white knit top, white denim, and white brocade blazer pair well together.
  • Shoes and jewelry can definitely be the third (or fourth or fifth) monochromatic piece.
  • If you don't have three of the same exact color family, go with what's right next to that color on the color wheel. Red and purple look great together because they're sisters on the color wheel.
