A 12-year-old Baytown girl says two men tried to get her into their van.

A 12-year-old girl says someone tried to abduct her Monday afternoon just feet from the front door of her Baytown apartment.

"It scared me and I didn't know what to do at the same time," she said.

According to the preteen and her mother, they had just returned home at about 4:20 p.m. to the apartment complex in the 7500 block of Decker Drive.

The girl told Baytown police that her mother and siblings had already gone inside and she was at the dumpster throwing away trash.

She tells Eyewitness News that two men approached her in a van.

"He was like 'Do you want some candy?' and I was like, 'No, I'm good,'" said the girl, whose mother asked that Eyewitness News not identify her.

The girl says she ran the second she saw the passenger undo his seat belt and start opening his door.

"She told me she did not scream. She just ran. She freaked and she ran," said her mother, Wendi Johnson.

She says her daughter bolted into the house, slamming the door shut behind her. Johnson was already inside with the other kids.

She didn't hear or see anything.

Whoever was in the van sped off before she could get back outside.

Police are investigating.

The girl describes the suspect vehicle as a white van with green and horizontal stripes on the side.

She says two men were inside the van. She describes the driver as a white man, overweight, with blond hair.

She describes the passenger as a thinner white man with brown hair.

The girl remembers a wheelchair with a handicapped sticker on the back of the van, which she says she saw through the window.
