GULF SHORES, AL (KTRK) -- It was a tragic start to Mardi Gras day in Alabama.

A car drove into a crowd of people around 10am before the start of a parade in Gulf Shores. According to police, a youth band was entering Highway 590 when a car behind them drove forward, injuring at least 11 members of the band.

"A teenage band has just started to march down the parade route when they were struck from behind. The vehicle was apart of the parade," says Grant Brown, a spokesperson for the city of Gulf Shores.

Three of the band members are critically injured, police said. Video of the scene shows several ambulances with patients laying on the ground. Eyewitnesses said some of the teens were trapped under the car.
