EZ Tag app makes tolls a breeze -- at a price

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The new EZ Tag app introduces a big change -- you no longer need the physical tag in your car, just your smartphone. While the move is a win for convenience, you may end up paying a little more.

All you need to set up the app is a credit card and your vehicle information.

Within the app, you will pay the cash, non-tag toll rate, versus the physical tag, which charges the lowest toll rate.

You won't receive monthly statements with an app like you would with the EZ Tag. Instead, all transactions and balances can be viewed in the app.

Just like the tag, you will still have to pre-fund your app account with $40. When your balance reaches $10, your card will be auto-charged with another $40 to refill.

While using the app, drivers can change vehicles as frequently as they'd like -- just designate which vehicle you will be using, and you're good to go!

The app works on all toll roads in the Houston area with the exception of the Grand Parkway.
