HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houston Independent School District board tonight decided to call a May 6 election on recapture payments.
This is the money that HISD has to give the state of Texas under the state's Robin Hood law.
That law takes money from so-called "rich" districts and gives money to districts that are considered "poor."
In November, taxpayers voted against authorizing the district to send $162 million dollars to the state. HISD is now obligated to give up more than $77 million dollars.
