Independent examiner changes ruling on death to undetermined
HEDWIG VILLAGE (KTRK) -- A family is accusing police officers of lying about the death of their relative in May of 2016.
On May 31, the Hedwig Village Police Department arrested Darrall Thomas after a short chase.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transferred to Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
Thomas' family began to question if Hedwig Village PD did more than just restrain him.
The Harris County Medical Examiner ruled Thomas' cause of death a drug overdose, but the family hired an independent medical examiner who ruled the cause of death as undetermined.
Community Activist Quanell X and his family held a press conference demanding that an independent investigation is opened for Thomas.
"We want the Department of Justice to step in to make sure there's been no cover up," said Quanell X.
