HOPEWELL, VA (KTRK) -- A Virginia man says his 62-year-old wife was shot in the neck by a stray bullet as she watched television on the couch.

Iftikhar Saiyed said his wife Nora was watching television in the living room when the unimaginable happened.

"She said, 'I'm bleeding from my head,' and she started bleeding. She looked at the window and said, 'No, I got shot,'" Saiyed recalled to WTVR-TV.

Upon closer inspection, Saiyed found a quarter-sized bullet hole and crack in the living room window near the couch where Nora was sitting.

Police say the bullet came from the outside, hitting Nora in the neck.

Paramedics rushed her to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, where doctors operated and saved her life.

Police say they don't have a motive for the shooting, calling the event a senseless act of violence.

Nora is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
