Mystery shimmers light up the sky over Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Our newsroom received several calls Thursday night from viewers seemingly seeing fire in the sky. Viewer footage shows what looks to be flames pouring out of the darkness in the sky near downtown.

We think we've solved the mystery -- and, don't worry, it's not an alien spaceship coming in for a landing.

Parachuters with pyrotechnic flame effects dropped in on the University of Houston game around the same time these reports started to come in.

University of Houston police can't confirm if the flames were indeed from parachutes.
