Diana Gomez, 27, is continuing to heal, days after she and two of her children were shot by a robber.

Diana Gomez's four-year-old daughter, Ava, was killed.

Diana Gomez has been in the ICU since the shooting happened on Monday night. Now, her condition is improving and for the first time, she was able to share her story with her siblings about what happened.

Neighbors are mourning the death of a 4-year-old girl who was shot and killed by robbers. Courtney Fischer reports.

Diana's sister, Julie Gomez, said Diana had just returned home on Monday night after picking up her kids from Julie's house. Diana bought groceries earlier in the day and was taking them in.

"They were unloading the groceries so they were all out of the vehicle," said Julie Gomez, Diana Gomez's sister.

Julie said that's when two suspects walked up and they were trying to steal her SUV. Diana immediately pushed her children behind her back to protect them.

"Her first instinct was to, she tried to put her kids behind her," said Julie.

Diana's vehicle is a push to start and so the key was in her pocket, not in the ignition. The suspects weren't able to get her key.

The mother of two daughters, including one four-year-old, is beginning to recover in an area hospital.

Julie said when the suspects couldn't get her vehicle, they went after her purse. Julie said Diana always wore her purse across her body, not on her shoulder, making it more difficult for someone to grab it. The suspect pointed a gun and after that it all happened so fast.

"She said he didn't even give her the chance to take it off. He just started shooting," said Julie.

Julie said Diana did not resist the suspect's demand and would have given her purse over immediately, but she never had a chance. She said the suspect started shooting immediately. Diana was shot multiple times. He daughter Ava, was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

Her ten-year-old daughter, Betzy, was grazed by a bullet and has since been released from the hospital.

Julie said Diana continues to heal.

"Physically, I guess she's okay, but emotionally she's in disbelief. She just can't believe she lost her baby," said Julie.

Diana also told Julie the shooter was wearing a dark mask and she didn't get a good look at the other two suspects with him.

Investigators are still searching for the suspects.
