Caught on tape: HD surveillance shows Spring Branch burglars

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Nearly 70 burglaries have been reported in the Spring Branch area of Houston in the last month, with one being caught by high-quality surveillance video.

At least three people can be seen inside the home in Spring Branch north. The trio take computers, a BB gun and two pistols, among other items from inside the home. Another camera shows the suspects pull up, wait until the mail man leaves the neighborhood, then break into the home.

The victim spoke to ABC13, saying he first got a notice on his phone of movement inside his house while he was away. He's a wedding photographer and has an office inside his home.

"They took some of my camera equipment, as well as laptops I use for editing, and so there's a lot that was...for me it kinda puts me in a tough spot for work," the victim said.

DropCam, also called NestCam, is a security system designed to help people watch their homes and families while they're away. This family's cameras caught the bad guys get out the car as soon as the mailman left. And it caught perhaps the clearest surveillance images we've seen in a while.

A small investment that this couple believes could be good for more families to make just to add an extra layer of security. We asked if they believe the cameras did what they were supposed to do here.

That area alone has seen seven burglaries in the last month.

Across the entire area, there have been 69 burglaries.
