HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Get ready for a downtown traffic nightmare this weekend. All lanes of I-45 will be shut down, both northbound and southbound between I-10 and US-59, all weekend.

TxDOT is closing the freeway to begin work on the demolition of the West Dallas Bridge over I-45. The underside of the bridge was hit by an over height truck traveling on I-45 on September 2. As a result of the damage, the bridge will have to be torn down and completely rebuilt.

The work will continue over several weekends, including the weekend of November 18, December 2, and December 9. The West Dallas bridge will remain closed until work is complete. Take Allen Parkway as an alternate route.

During the weekend closures, take US-59 as an alternate to I-45.

To access downtown, use I-10, US-59, or Allen Parkway.

During this construction process, the Dallas Bridge will be out of commission starting last night, November 4th until the project is completed in late December. To head eastbound towards Downtown, use Pierce as an alternate. To travel westbound, take Lamar, which turns into Allen Parkway.
